raw recording stage

The recording stage is the MOST important part of the production process. If you wanna have a good master, you need a good mix…and if you want a good mix, you need a good recording. The quality and attention to detail in the recording will effect how the song turns out. It’s not only about the sonics of the sounds going into the microphone, but the gear that the audio runs through (and how it’s used) as well as the engineer’s ability to capture AND achieve the best performance from YOU, the artist.

LISTEN TO A RAW RECORDING

This is an example of recording from Smart Boy Studios. There is a focus on artist performance, the volume (gain) of the microphone, placement of the microphone, and microphone/pre-amp combination used.

EQUIPMENT USED

The raw recording provided was recorded through a Warm Audio WA87 into a Universal Audio La-610 into ProTools. During the recording process, I put compression, reverb, and delay on the performer’s voice so in their headphones they have a bit of ambience/staging to provide a more comfortable sound (these can be turned off based on artist preference).
