advanced MIXing stage
After the initial mix is complete, it’s time to add (or subtract) things to make the mix SPECIAL. This is where detail, creativity, and technical know-how all come together.
Here’s a list of things we may do in the final mixing stage, depending on relevance:
Automation (volume, reverb, delay, FX)
Manual Pitch Correction (sometimes this is done in the initial mix)
Production “Moments” (Beat Drops, Tape Stops, etc)
Artificial Harmonies (sometimes this is done in the initial mix)
Transition Tightening
Mix Buss Processing (when needed)

GENRE-SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES
Different styles require different sounds. R&B/Soul and Pop music may require more focus on automated delays and reverbs to emphasize the emotional impact of the lyrics. Rap/Hip-Hop may rely on extra punch or grit as well as production tricks to keep the record exciting. Rock/Metal typically requires greater attention to tone and blend, as well as distortion - providing a mix that has a lot of texture without losing too much clarity in guitars and vocals.
